Introduction. Criptococosis is an infectious disease frequently caused by Critococus neoformans. In immunosupressed patients its an endemic infection. It has different clinical presentations and the lung compromise indicate the systemic nature of the disease.
Objective. The objective of this study was to characterize and describe our hospital experience in pulmonary criptococossis.
Design. Case series.
Materials and methods. The latest 20 years pathological registers were reviewed, to find patients with pulmonary criptococossis. The diagnosis was made on tissue or pulmonary secretion, and other organs or not could be compromised. 12 patients were found, 7 of them had a complete chart. We analize demografic, cinical and paraclinical variables (Chest X ray or laboratory reports).
Results: Clinical, radiological and pathological data were documented in 7 patients. 5 male and 2 female. The average age was 34 + 5 years. Six of them had HIV coinfection, and just one was on HAART. We found different image paterns and the most common pathological finding was the prescence of multiple tissue and intracellular criptococus.
Conclusions. Criptococcus infection its an endemic micosis in some grade immunosupresssed patients, and its incidence and prevalence with it. The pulmonary prescence of the (hongo) shows the systemic nature of the infection driven from the haemathological spread. There are no clinical data or fisical findings that suggests the diseasse except for finding criptococos in other organs at the time of respiratory symptoms.Despite and adequate tratment, mortality still being high.
