Tracheobronchial foreign body aspiration (FB) is a rare event. However, it could be life-threatening in adults, although incidence rates increase within ages between 1 and 2 and can occur in a variety of clinical settings. It is related to neurological deterioration or an alteration in swallowing. Symptoms associated with aspiration of EC can range from acute asphyxia with or without complete airway obstruction to cough, dyspnea, choking, or fever (1,3).
Radiological imaging helps find the foreign body and plan treatment. Flexible bronchoscopy is an effective procedure for diagnosing and removing foreign bodies (1). Success rates of extraction with flexible bronchoscopy in adults range from 60% to 90%, but rigid bronchoscopy may be necessary in a minority of cases, especially in more complex cases. We present a clinical case of a patient with tracheobronchial ES managed by flexible bronchoscopy with favorable results.
