Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a common condition with systemic repercussions, among which osteoporosis is found. Vertebral fractures are derived from reduced bone mass, and promote deformation of the spine. Hyperkyphosis is one of the most common alterations of the dorsal segment of the spine, and causes a negative impact on the general wellbeing and living conditions of the patient. The COPD/hyperkyphosis combination could modify the clinical course of the patient with respiratory illness, since it can cause greater impairment of respiratory mechanics and lung function. The information about this combination continues to be scarce. It is necessary to carry out studies in order to determine the prevalence of deformations of the spine in patients with COPD, as well as their impact on lung function and the clinical course of the disease.
