La curva de presión volumen del sistema respiratorio es un método fisiológico que es utilizado para describir las propiedades mecánicas del sistema respiratorio. De nuevo el interés en la curva de presión volumen ha aparecido por la evidencia a nivel experimental sobre la información dada por la curva, como es un mejor conocimiento de los factores fisiopatológicos que influencian su interpretación y el beneficio de los resultados a través de los estudios clínicos sobre el uso de la curva de presión volumen en el manejo ventilatorio del síndrome de dificultad respiratoria aguda.
