Acute pulmonary edema is characterized by the accumulation of liquid in the pulmonary interstice, the alveoli, the bronchi and bronchioles; it is from the excessive circulation from the pulmonary vascular system towards extravascular and the respiratory spaces. The liquid filters first at the interstitial space to soon perivascular and peribronquial and, gradually, towards the alveoli and bronchi.
