      La enfermedad pulmonar obstructiva crónica (EPOC) es una importante causa de morbimortalidad entre las enfermedades crónicas en todo el mundo. La EPOC es actualmente la cuarta causa de muerte a escala mundial y puede predecirse que su prevalencia y mortalidad se incrementarán en las próximas décadas. Es necesario realizar un esfuerzo internacional unificado para intentar invertir estas tendencias.
