Respiratory health in Colombia faces a critical crossroads because, despite the significant advances made in recent decades in coverage and management, the burden of acute and chronic respiratory disease is today immense and continues to grow (1). Added to this is the impact of air pollution, tobacco and e-cigarette consumption, the use of biomass in the countryside, the constant threat of acute respiratory infections, the post-pandemic increase in the incidence of tuberculosis cases and, finally, the syndemic due to interaction with morbidities associated with aging and increased life expectancy (2,3).

This challenging scenario arises within a fragmented and inequitable health system, characterized by access gaps, particularly for vulnerable populations and in rural areas. Professionals face a complex, bureaucratic system with limited resources, which hinders the prevention and timely, effective, and quality provision of respiratory care services (4,5).
