When I was a child, the accordion was not part of the musical landscape of my house. My father, an accomplished bolero singer, preferred the lyrics of Manzanero, the elegant tearing of Javier Solís or the bohemian and suburban style of the anacobero Daniel Santos and, without a doubt, also the phrasing and cadence of Vicentico Valdés. So I grew up among sighs of boleros, guarachas, mambos and the Antillean guajira music, far from the lively notes of vallenato. I want to tell you that vallenato, in my life, did not enter through the door as a spontaneous musical taste, but through the window of an adolescent love.
