Patients with advanced cancer stages have short life expectancy. They frequently complaints for pleural effusion. Treatment is Thoracentesis or chest tube insertion. The last one is painful and a Hospital procedure. Trying to ameliorate life quality, the therapy should be ambulatory. Using common Hospital elements we manage ambulatory way this problem in 20 patients. We present the implementation of the technique and results. The study group has 82 % male and 18 % female. Etiology was breast cancer 32 %, lung cancer 24 % and cervix cancer 12 %. Effusion Cytology was positive for malignancy in only 47 %. Drainage was between 2 to 38 days longer with an average of 10 days. Volume range was between 0.1 to 2.0 liters in a day. The procedure was effective in 77 %. We observe that is a secure and effective technique for the treatment of malingnat pleural effusion, which the patients don't have to be hospitalized. We achieve objectives purposed, improve quality of life and decrease hospital stay.
It was ambulatory in 75 % of patients.
