Tuberculous pericarditis is an infrequent clinical presentation of tuberculosis associated with a high mortality and occurs both in immunocompromised and immunocompetent patients. In endemic countries like Colombia it has to be considered between the pericarditis’ differential diagnoses, especially in the cases with hemodynamic compromise. Diagnosis is made with the demonstration of de tuberculous bacilli in the pericardial fluid or in a pericardial biopsy. The determination of adenosin deaminase levels in pericardial fluid is also useful. Treatment is similar to the pulmonary tuberculosis and corticosteroids should be associated to decrease the incidence of complications.

In this article we present a tuberculous pericarditis case which was diagnosed and treated by our service, its principal clinical and laboratory findings are described and a literature review is presented.
