En ciertas y esporádicas situaciones, el sistema respiratorio puede sufrir un daño agudo ocasionado por la inhalación de agentes tóxicos presentes en diversas formas físicas (Tabla 1.). Esto sucede más frecuentemente en el sitio de trabajo, aunque también ocurre en áreas residenciales, en sitios públicos, o en situaciones de guerra (1). Las manifestaciones de la injuria por inhalación aguda son diversas, y abarcan desde la irritación leve hasta la fatalidad.
